What does it mean to you?

I wanted to write this piece about balance.

I often read articles pertaining to balance and how some may say that we “must have balance in our lives in order to be strong and prosper and to have meaning and fulfillment.” But I’m here to offer a sort of rebuttal to those who say such things.

Now, for me, I do believe balance is important and necessary when it comes to like daily tasks that we need to accomplish. For example, if you are a busy person and have like 100 different things to do in a day, it’s important to prioritize and balance those things out in order to get them done. And there are times when we might not always get every single task completed in one day. So for me, balance in this aspect is important.

On the other hand, there are those who believe in a much deeper meaning of the word “balance.” There are those who will say that we need to have drama in our lives. We need to experience good things and bad things such as: grief, sadness, pain, peace, war, love, hate, etc. We need all of those things in order to create a sense of balance within ourselves. Some even believe if we did not go through hardships in life, than life would be rather dull and boring. Some believe that with this balance, we become stronger or more powerful.

When I would read or hear people say such things I would ponder as to why they think this way. Maybe this is something taught or maybe these are reasonings for going through so many hardships in our lives that we need to make sense of it all? And the only way to make sense and to be content with the trials and tribulations is to say that “we must go through good times and bad times in order to create balance.”

For me, I have been through all of the hurt, joy, pain, lies, grief, sadness, love, peace, etc etc. I’ve been through it all! I’m sorry to say but I cannot sit here and tell you, “I’m glad I went through all of those painful times in my lives because if I hadn’t, my life would be dull and boring. With the balance of good vs bad, I now am a stronger person and can conquer anything that comes my way.” If I told you that, I would be lying.

I say all the time, if I could have one wish it would be to go back in time. I know people say “don’t look back,” but it’s not so much looking back as it is going back and fixing things or making different choices.

Of course we never know what life will bring our way and yes we all go through hardships, but if I hadn’t gone through many of the things I did, I would not have wasted many years of my life waiting on empty promises.

It wasn’t the balance of these things in my life that brought me peace and made me stronger today. It was the fact that I got through them with the help of my faith in my Lord and Savior. And before you start to denounce what I’m saying, I’m only speaking for myself, not anyone else.

I was always a believer but not much of a doer. I believe in God, went to mass every Sunday and I believed that was good enough. I did not always know Him or ask Him for help. I did not put in the work and effort into my faith in God. I did not talk to Him, I thought by going to mass that was my way of reaching out.

I was wrong.

So now every single time I go through trials and tribulations in my life, I grow stronger in my faith in God and Jesus, which then and only then do I conquer those things and that is what makes me stronger.

I would have much rather never, ever see anyone hurting or sad, angry, or depressed. I much rather see peace instead of war, love instead of hate. I mean, who wouldn’t? I don’t want to see the balance of good vs evil, I want to see GOOD and only the GOOD in life. Because I’ve seen the bad, I’ve seen the evil, and it’s not something I want to see ever again- although this is very difficult to achieve living in this world today.

But one day good will prevail!

So with that said, I do not agree with those who say we need to go through bad things and good things to create a sense of balance or to have some “jolt” in our lives. I much rather drink a cup or two of coffee to give me that jolt instead of going through hardships.

What I wait for, what I pray for every single day of my life is: Everlasting Joy. Everlasting Peace. Everlasting Love. Now that, to me, is the meaning of life, that is the fulfillment I am after, that is the true: BALANCE.

Please read Book of Revelations last two chapters in the bible.

Chapter 21:

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth was gone, and the sea is no more. And I John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned by her husband. And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, no sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away. And he that sat on the throne, said: Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me: Write, for these words are most faithful and true.

And he said to me: It is done. I am Alpha and Omega: the beginning and the end. To him that thirst, I will give of the fountain of the water of life, freely. He that shall overcome shall possess these things, and I will be his God; and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

And there came one of the seven angles, who had the vials full of seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying: Come, and I will show thee the bride, the wife of the Lamb. And he took me up in spirit to a great and high mountain: and he showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. Having the glory of God, and the light thereof was like to a precious stone, as to the jasper stone, even as crystal. And it had a wall great and high, having twelve gates, and in the gates twelve angles, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. On the east, three gates: and on the north, three gates: and on the south, three gates: and on the west, three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them, the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

And he that spoke with me, had a measure of a reed of gold, to measure the city and the gates thereof, and the wall. And the city lieth in a foursquare, and the length thereof is great as the breadth: and he measure the city with the golden reed for twelve thousand furlongs, and the length and the height and the breadth thereof are equal. And he measured the wall thereof and hundred forty-four cubits, the measure of a man, which is of an angel. And the building of the wall thereof was of jasper stone: but the city itself pure gold, like to clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper, the second, sapphire: the third, a chalcedony: the fourth, and emerald: The fifth, sardonyx: the sixth, sardius: the seventh, chrysolite: the eighth, beryl: the ninth, a topaz: the tenth, a chrysoprasus: the eleventh, a jacinth: the twelfth, an amethyst.

And the twelve gates are twelve pearls, one to each: and every several gate was of one several pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein. For the Lord God Almighty is the temple thereof, and the Lamb. And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it. For the glory of God hath enlightened it, and the Lamb is the lamp thereof. And the nations shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates thereof shall not be shut by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. There shall not enter into it any thing defiled, or that worketh abomination or maketh a lie, but they that are written in the book of life of the Lamb.

Chapter 22.

And he showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street thereof, and on both sides of the river, was the tree of life, bearing twelve fruits, yielding its fruits every month, and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no curse anymore; but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall serve him. And they shall see his face: and his name shall be on their foreheads. And night shall be no more: and they shall not need the light of the lamp, nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God shall enlighten them, and they shall reign for ever and ever. And he said to me: These words are most faithful and true. And the Lord God of the spirits of the prophets sent his angel to show his servants the things which must be done shortly. And, Behold I come quickly. Blessed is he that keepth the words of the prophecy of this book.

And I, John, who have heard and seen these things. And after I have heard and seen, I fell down to adore before the feet of the angel, who showed me these things. And he said to me: See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets of this book: for the time is at hand. He that hurteth, let him hurt still: and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is just, let him be justified still: and he that is holy, let him be sanctified still. Behold, I come quickly; and my rewards are with me, to render to every man according to his works. I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning, and the end. Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life and may enter in by the gates into the city.

Without are dogs, and sorcerers, and unchaste and murderers, and servers of idols, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star. And the spirit and the bride say: Come. And he that heareth, let him say: Come. And he that thirst let him come: and he that will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify to every one that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of this book of life, and out of this holy city, and from these things that are written in this book. He that giveth testimony of these things, saith, Surly I come quickly: Amen. Come. Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
